Broadband….Road to Development or more Debts
As stated in the news, one of the hottest topics of today’s technical issues is the acquisition of the broadband technology which is, according to the news, be provided by the China Government. The Philippine government is in the process of negotiating/investigating the current ins and outs of the deal which primarily will bring us to loaning money (again), if not millions, billions. As of yesterday, the President stated that she’s going to wait for the analysis of her constituents towards the matter before the final approval and implementation of the said project. If my memory serves me right, few months ago the people and government department concerned with the country’s budget are showing off that our revenues increased compared to the previous years because of the 12% VAT, in English it means we are on the road towards decreasing our financial debts to other countries, and right now here we are creating again another opportunity to waste that good come back.
Yes its true that for some cases, broadband technology will bring more profit to the country. The trend of technological development is inevitable but the question behind is: “Is it one of the country’s budget’s top priorities?” As some senator stated who strongly disagree on the project, “Poverty is still a major problem of the country. There are millions of jobless people, baranggays/towns which can’t be reached by electricity, street children roaming around with not enough orphanage to accommodate them…There are more intense problem this country is facing and why spend millions for such project.” He does have a point.
True we don’t know the facts or what will this new project will bring us but will this be a road towards the development of our country or more debts.
